UNDERWATER HULL CLEANING AND PROPELLER POLISHING OF MT ALMI HORIZON IN ABIDJAN, IVORY COAST

UNDERWATER HULL CLEANING AND PROPELLER POLISHING OF MT ALMI HORIZON IN ABIDJAN, IVORY COAST

The underwater hull cleaning and propeller polishing of MT Almi Horizon at Abidjan Anchorage was carried out to restore the vessel’s operational efficiency by removing marine growth, corrosion, and biofouling. The cleaning and polishing processes also aimed at improving fuel efficiency and reducing drag, thus enhancing overall performance.

Technology Used

Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs): Equipped with cleaning tools for hull scraping and polishing. Diver-Assisted Operations: For detailed work on sensitive areas of the hull and propellers. High-Pressure Water Jets: For efficient removal of marine growth from the hull. Polishing Tools: Specially designed equipment for restoring propeller surfaces.

Project Status

Completed

Project Scope

Hull Cleaning: Complete removal of marine growth, barnacles, and biofouling from the vessel’s hull.

Propeller Polishing: Restoration of propeller surfaces to improve propulsion efficiency.

Inspection: Check for any signs of cracks or damage that might affect the vessel’s performance.

Post-Maintenance Survey: Ensure that the cleaning and polishing processes meet operational standards.

Project Objective

Remove biofouling, algae, and other marine growth from the hull and propellers.

Polish propellers to reduce drag and enhance fuel efficiency.

Improve vessel performance and reduce operational costs.

Ensure compliance with maritime regulations for hull maintenance

Challenges and Solutions

Strong Currents: Utilized anchor points and diving teams with dynamic positioning systems to ensure precision.

Biofouling Stubbornness: Used advanced cleaning tools and techniques to handle resistant biofouling.

Difficult Access to Propeller Blades: Employed divers with specialized equipment for effective propeller polishing in tight space

Impacts and Outcome

Enhanced fuel efficiency by reducing drag on the hull and propellers.

Improved vessel speed and overall performance.

Reduced long-term maintenance costs and improved vessel longevity.

Contributed to environmental sustainability by reducing the vessel’s carbon footprint.
